Oceans
The oceans and seas are at the center of the Principality’s priorities, and the Permanent Mission is fully committed to advocating to protect the oceans, seas and the resources they provide to ensure sustainable development and their sustainable use for current and future generations.
The Permanent Mission promotes the positions of the Princely Government through a number of processes, including:
- The Meetings of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,
- The informal consultative process on oceans and the law of the sea,
- The development of an international legally binding instrument on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction,
- Informal consultations on the draft omnibus resolution on oceans and the law of the seas as well as on and the draft resolution on the viability of fisheries.
In this regard, Monaco advocates and supports the importance of science and marine scientific research, marine protected areas, the of marine pollution and the protection of marine biodiversity and ecosystems.
