Sport for Development and Peace
Sport was introduced in the UN agenda in 1993 and the General Assembly resolution on the observance of the Olympic Truce was the first resolution to be co-sponsored by the Principality.
Ambassador Picco co-chairs the Group of Friends of Sport for Development and Peace since 2010. The Permanent Mission co-facilitates the informal consultations on the biennial General Assembly resolution entitled "Sport as a means to promote education, health, development and peace".
Furthermore, in 2013, Monaco presented, the draft resolution proclaiming 6 April "International Day of Sport for Development and Peace" and plays an active role in celebrating this Day every year.
During the negotiation of the Political Declaration of 2030 Agenda, Monaco promoted, with the support of several delegations, the inclusion of a paragraph recognising sport as an "an important enabler of sustainable development" (paragraph 37).
