6th International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

On April 3rd, more than 500 people took part in the 6th International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (celebrated on April 6th).

This event, organized by the Permanent Missions of the Principality of Monaco and Qatar, co-chairs of the Group of Friends for Sport, in collaboration with the Department of Global Communication and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, had the goal to promote the SDGs through sport and featured introductory remarks by Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. MOHAMMED 

Mr. Laurent DUPONT, Director of the Peace & Sport Association, invited the participants to raise their white card #WhiteCard. In reference to the yellow card and red card in the world of sport, the "WhiteCard" is an invitation not to punish but to promote peace.

Toronto Raptors President, Masai UJIRI, Laura GENTILE, Vice President of Marketing at ESPN Women, Ann ROSENBERG, Vice President of SAP Next-Gen, Agnès MARCAILLOU, Director of UNMAS, and Juan Pablo SALAZAR, member of the International Paralympic Committee, supported by moderator Ms. Tabitha LIPKIN, sports journalist at Fox 5 San Diego, all exposed the role of sport as a transversal facilitator for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Development.
