The Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations in New York took part in the 59th session of the Commission for Social Development, which took place from February 8 to 17, 2021. This subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council chose an appropriate priority theme: "Transition towards sustainable development and social justice: digital technology at the service of social development and the well-being of all", perfectly suited to the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic in which the world relies on digital technology.

Ms. Alyson CALEM-SANGIORGIO, Third Secretary, took the floor during the general debate to show the important role digital technology plays in Monaco, through the Extended Monaco and Monaco Santé programs, but also the importance of having a secure digital sector, which the Principality is able to provide using blockchain technology and the Commission de Contrôle des Informations Nominatives (CCIN).

This session also resulted in the adoption of a resolution on digital technology for social development. The Monegasque delegation, aware of the importance of the practice of sports at home, in particular in the context of a pandemic where a large part of the world population has been faced with confinements and quarantines, has obtained that this mention be part of the resolution on the priority theme. The Commission therefore recognizes the potential of digital technologies in the practice of sport and physical activity.
