On 12 July 2019, during the High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development, convened under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, H.E. Ms. Picco, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco, presented the measures taken by her Government to fight against food waste.

Organized by the delegations of the European Union and the Republic of San Marino to the United Nations, this side event "Fight against food loss and waste: promoting an international response", helped to share good practices to combat food loss and waste while the world's population is expected to reach 10 billion in 2050.

The Ambassador recalled the recent signing of a financing agreement by Monaco to support the reduction of losses in the dates, apples and figs sector in the oasis systems of Morocco as part of the 41st FAO Conference.

She also recalled that as early as 2013, the Government of Monaco had published a guide for responsible food consumption and presented an approach to achieving zero waste in the hotel industry, as part of the Energy Transition Mission.

From the "petite boîte  rouge et blanche" (doggy-bag)  to take away uneaten food at the restaurant, the campaign of the Tourism and Convention Bureau "Green is the new Glam", and the discussion around the play " Dirty Talk " by David Wahl at the Princess Grace Theater, to the workshops offered to families by the "Stars and Bars" restaurant, the participants were able to appreciate Monaco's commitment against food waste and to raise the awareness of both professionals and consumers.
