Opening of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and Namibia

On 12 September, Namibia became the 146th State with which the Principality of Monaco established diplomatic relations, with the signing of joint communiqués by H.E. Mr. Neville GERTZE and H.E. Ms. Isabelle PICCO, Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.

This country of southern Africa is very active in the fight against desertification, seeing the Namib Desert grow as water resources diminish. The authorities are developing renewable energies despite high costs due to a small population.

A member of the United Nations since its independence in 1990, Namibia is committed to multilateralism and human rights. It is one of the countries contributing to peacekeeping operations through the provision of troops.

The International Cooperation of Monaco supports the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop malaria in 8 countries of southern and eastern Africa, including Namibia.
