Prince Albert II of Monaco Prize presented at UNCA Gala in New York

The traditional United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Gala was held on 16 December in New York, attended, among others, by UN Secretary-General H.E. Mr António Guterres.

During the gala, the 21st UNCA Awards for the best coverage of the UN and UN agencies were presented.

H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to the UN, awarded the Prince Albert II Prize to four female journalists for their reporting on climate change.

The highest honours went to Somini Sengupta of the New York Times for her coverage of the impact of climate change on migration. Her report was part of a series of eight articles in the New York daily newspaper on “Carbon’s Casualties” 

It is also worth noting that the Global Citizen of the Year award was presented to actress Angelina Jolie in her capacity as Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
