H.E. Ms. Isabelle PICCO, Ambassador, signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities this 27 June 2019.

The Permanent Representative then handed over to Mrs. Arancha HINOJAL-OYARBIDE, Head of the Office of Legal Affairs at the Treaty Section, the Instrument of ratification of the said Protocol, signed by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince.

This instrument complements the Convention, ratified by the Principality on 19 September 2017, and provides for a confidential individual appeal procedure (after exhaustion of domestic remedies) on any alleged violation of one or more of the rights set out in the Convention. The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities can then undertake an investigation, decide if there is violation or non-violation and make recommendations.

The Principality is the 96th State Party to this Protocol.
