
The Oscar 2020 for best documentary short presented at the Permanent Mission of Monaco - "Learning to skateboard in a war zone (if you are a girl)" by Carol Dysinger

On March 10,Their Excellencies Mmes Adela Raz and Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representatives of Afghanistan and Monaco to the United Nations, organized the screening of the 2020 Oscar-winning documentary "Learning to skateboard in a war zone ( if you are a girl) ".
Director Carol Dysinger filmed the work of the NGO Skateistan in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Organization created by Oliver Percovich in 2007 was awarded by Peace and Sport (best NGO in 2009 and "image of the year" in 2011) before receiving the "World Award 2020" of the International Olympic Committee, as part of Women and Sport Awards. Skateistan is also active in South Africa and Cambodia.
After the screening, the participants were able to discuss the impact of this innovative program which welcomes young girls, from 5 to 17 and from particularly disadvantaged backgrounds, to receive basic education and acquire social skills through the practice of skateboarding.
